There’s Helltide, a regularly occurring event that brings a surge in demonic activity. There's is also an end-game system where you will continue to grow in power through challenges. There are also Strongholds to claim for the citizens of Sanctuary. World Bosses will emerge, and you will need to defeat them in groups for a chance at their spoils.
The non-linear game also features 140 dungeons, side-quests, and plenty of loot. The three who open the gate are the sacrificed dudes. I think there are 2 different groups of “three”. I know it most likely refers to the guys sacrificed, but also the chant says “By three they come. Wild theory ahead - The cinematic is called “By three they come”. That brings us back to “Blessed mother, save us.”. Rathma was like “My parents suck! Better become the apprentice of a giant snake god” Lilith is the mother of all humans and Inarius is the father with the “Cronos complex” seeing his offspring as a threat. Inarius was like “WTF?” and sent her to the Void, while tuning the Worldstone so generation after generation the Nephalem lose their powers and turn to puny mortals. Lilith said “No u!” and killed them instead. Long story short - The angels who came with Lilith and Inarius when Sanctuary was created were scared of the Nephalems’ power and wanted to kill them. Both Lilith and Rathma are fond of the Nephalem/humans. In the cinematic you can see Rathma( first necromancer, son of Lilith and Inarius ) summoning her and saying “Blessed mother, save us.”. We will most likely interact with Inarius, but I think Lilith will not be the main villain in D4.
